Superbills
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed, itemized document provided by healthcare providers to patients, which outlines the services rendered during a medical visit. It is used by patients to submit claims to their insurance companies for reimbursement, especially when a provider is out-of-network or the patient is seeking reimbursement for services that are not directly billed to insurance.
Purpose of a Superbill:
Insurance Reimbursement: When a patient receives care from an out-of-network provider, or when services are not directly billed to insurance, the superbill serves as the document used to submit a claim to the insurance company for reimbursement.
Proof of Service: It acts as official documentation for both the patient and the insurer that medical services were provided.
Simplified Billing for Patients: For patients who pay out-of-pocket at the time of the visit, the superbill allows them to request reimbursement from their insurer, where applicable.
