Background:

Originally from Atlanta, Amy moved to the Northern Virginia area 22 years ago. Since living here, she earned her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech.

For almost 2 years, Amy has worked with individuals, couples, and families. Through compassion and warmth, she creates a comfortable and inviting space for clients to share their stories.  

Technique:

While focusing on their therapeutic goals, Amy helps her clients discover their personal strengths, while also learning new ways to create change in their lives.  In relationships, she explores the patterns that keep clients feeling stuck and works toward creating stronger and more rewarding connections with others.

While meeting with clients, Amy uses a variety of therapeutic models such as Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Bowen Family Systems Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.  She has advanced training in Emotion-Focused Therapy for couples and guides them in recognizing and expressing their emotional needs more effectively, so that they can foster secure and healthy relationships.

Just for fun:

When not working, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and her dog, Ginger. She also loves to play soccer and feels that chocolate is a necessary part of life.

Amy Rueffert, Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy, is currently working toward licensure as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). She is registered with the Virginia Board of Counseling and provides clinical services under the supervision of the LMFT listed below. As a Resident in Marriage and Family Therapy, she does not obtain or provide services on an independent basis, and she does not independently submit insurance claims. All insurance claims are submitted through Crescent Counseling Center.
